Jonah Yick, IFS Carp Management Program (CMP) Leader recently presented at the Tasmanian Fly Tyers Club meeting.

The Tasmanian Fly Tyers Club are great supporters of the CMP. They are very excited at the possibility of successful eradication. Many of the members fished Lake Sorell back in the pre-carp days.

Jonah spoke about the battle against carp in Lake Sorell and the possibility of a late opening in 2019. He presented on

  • the dropping catch rates;
  • the most effective gear;
  • the jelly gonad condition present in many of the male carp; and
  • The overall poor condition and small average size of the carp left in Lake Sorell.

Perhaps members of the Tasmanian Fly Tyers Club, and others, will be able to get back onto one of their favourite water in the next year.
